History

This model recreates the Ecurie Ecosse (Ault Wyborg Flag blue metallic) blue liveried Jaguar D-Type XKD606, winner of the 1957 Le Mans 24 Hours race, as driven by Ron Flockhart and Ivor Bueb.

Chassis XKD606, was the last long-nose 1956 works car. The car was to have been raced at Le Mans but was damaged by Titterington in practice. In November 1956 the car was delivered to Ecurie Ecosse with a 3.4 litre carburettor engine (E4004-9), painted metallic blue and registered RSF 301. The car used trade plates (white on red) 376 SG for the trip to the 1957 Le Mans race.

Ironically, after Jaguar had withdrawn from motorsport at the end of the 1956 season, 1957 proved to be the D-Type's most successful year. In the 1957 Le Mans race D-Types took five of the top six positions. Ecurie Ecosse (with a large degree of support from Jaguar, and a 3.8L engine) again took the win, and second place. This was the high-water mark in the car's career. In 1957, XKD606 was raced at Buenos Aires by Flockhart and Galvez where it was crashed by Flockhart. It was rebuilt at the Jaguar works with a new frame and bonnet.

The history of Jaguar D Types is fairly well documented but it is important to be aware that most of the cars had more than one registration number, some cars had both short and long nose bodywork and some cars were destroyed either in a race incident or for the purposes of repairing another D Type. Many cars were owned by different teams and painted different liveries throughout the racing lives. This car, chassis XKD606, had three registration numbers (license plates): RSF 301, 032 RW and 376 SG. The car chalked up the following results:

1956 Le Mans, race No2, (DNS)
1956 Reims, race No.24
1957 Le Mans, race no.3 (winner)
1957 Monza
